Abstract: On the basis of estimate of variability of the total solar irradiance in 27-day intervals, new index of solar cyclic activity (sI) has been proposed. 18-year row of sI has been computed on Nimbus-7 and UARS/ACRIM-II data. Statistical analysis of sI and other solar indices has been carried out. A special attention has been paid to investigation of quasi-biennial variations (QBV) of these indices.

As a result, the following conclusion have been made. 1. QBV of sI and QBV of all parameters of the solar activity as well as different geophysical processes occur in the same phase. 2. There is a relationship between QBV of these parameters and 11-year solar cycle. During the solar cycle, amplitudes of QBV show regular changes. 3. The total solar irradiance I has QBV too, but these variation are in antiphase with other indices. 4. Close correlation (r=0.95) between running average annual values of sI and F107 has been found despite that values of sI and I correlate poorly. 5. Running annual index sI demonstrates double maximum in cycle N22.

The results obtained through statistical analysis are interpreted.
