Abstract: We analyze the long term evolution of the intensity (by means of the contrast) distribution of small magnetic features, like faculae and magnetic network. We use near-simultaneous full disk magnetograms and images of photospheric continuum intensity provided by the Michelson Doppler Interferometer (MDI) on board SOHO. A distinction between flux tubes within and outside active regions or quiet Sun network is made. The evolution of the contrasts of both flux tube populations -faculae and network- from solar minimum to solar maximum is studied.
